John Stoddard
Candidate for Councillor for District 22
HRM was created to provide service
while pooling resources to bring down
costs. As a labourer, snow-plow
operator and finally as a Canadian
Certified playground inspector for the
municipality, I have witnessed first
hand the decline in service and increase
in costs. Amalgamation has not lived
up to its promises. I am running for
councillor because of my frustration
with the lack of progress, direction and
vision. I believe people are ready for
real change.
We’re tired of cat by-laws and chicken
deportation orders debated in council.
HRM by Design is almost finished. I
was in on the public consultation and
I believe it is a workable plan for the
future, but you will need a council who
can stay focused and get things moving.
I will bring an extensive knowledge
of the inner workings of HRM at the
ground level – where the rubber meets
the road if you will. Parliamentary
procedures, experience with chairing
committees, protocol, safety issues,
disaster preparedness training come
also with me. I already have a working
relationship with several councillors
and I am able to build consensus within
council on issues that affect our district.
I want to change the very working
culture of council and this is what it
needs.
These are historic times. Democracy
250, the American and Canadian
elections and for the first time electronic
voting will be allowed in our election.
You will be able to vote by phone
or through the web at home on your
computer. My church, Emmanuel
Baptist, has helped me realize that I have
a heart for service. Allow me the honour
and privilege of representing District
22. Let’s make history together and
leave a better world for our children. I
ask for your electronic vote on Oct. 4-6
or in the old fashion way on the 18th.
